BORGES, Emnielle Pinto; NASCIMENTO, Maria do Desterro Soares Brandão  e  SILVA, Silvana Maria Moura da. Benefit of ludic activities in the recovery of children with cancer. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2008, vol.28, n.2, pp. 211-221. ISSN 1415-711X.

The hospitalized child undergoing oncological treatment has to deal with a number of restrictions imposed by the illness that ails him, in conjunction with the tension caused by the gravity of the illness and also by the hospital routine. Ludic activities appear as an important strategy to confront these conditions, allowing a less traumatic and more humanized environment, which improves on the health and well being of the child under such conditions, as well as to the family. The present research on a qualitative-quantitative basis has been performed with 12 children, with ages between 2 and 10 years old, and with their respective mothers. The instruments for the collection of data were: interviews with the mother, ludic observations and talk with the children, complemented by data furnished by the hospital registers of the children. The conclusion is that playing is essential in the treatment of the hospitalized kids with cancer. The benefits are centralized in the strenghtening of the children’s joy, in the promotion of socialization and well being and in the acceptance and promotion of the treatment.
