Abstract

VALLE CRUCES, Alacir Villa. Research in the formation of the Brazilian psychologists and its public politics. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2008, vol.28, n.2, pp. 240-255. ISSN 1415-711X.

This article focuses on the importance of the research in the formation of psychologists in Brazil. it rescues the first concerns with the preparation of professionals, which date back to the end of the XIXth. century, and show that the models for the formation of psychologists proposed in the last century were already based on the indissociability between teaching, research and extension. Laboratories are set up for the scientific and systematic study of theories, methods and techniques, and to fundament applications in several areas. However, with the regulation of the profession, the situation changes. The expansion of courses in Psychology, in institutions that were not necessarily interested in the research or that did not have professionals prepared to develop them, provoked a detachment between research and teaching. The difficulty of professional insertion, intensified as from the decade of the 80s, is associated to the low quality of the professional’s formation, as well as with the difficulty in the enlargening of the working market and to the public image of that profession. The advances toward a better professional qualification, contained in the National Curriculum Guidelines for the graduation courses in Psychology, involving the evaluation of courses and the teaching conditions, has stimulated the performance of researches and the continued formation of professors and, consequently, has also been able to provide a better formation to their pupils.
