Abstract

SAKAMOTO, Cleusa Kazue. Child’s play: creativity and health. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2008, vol.28, n.2, pp. 267-277. ISSN 1415-711X.

The creativity that essentially reflects the spontaneous human activity of experimentation that the human being practices in its relationship with the world, during childhood goes through a period of important definition. The act of play in childhood, great example of creativity and wholesome development of the human being, expresses personal, social and cultural aspects, and the concrete dimensions of the actions performed by the body. According to Winnicott, during childhood, creative potential is at the service of constituting a personal identity, and it is worth saying that it is the most important creative work of human existence, considering that all other achievements will derive from this first one. It is during childhood that the healthy human being thoroughly explores the revealing experiments of subjective aspects which are his own, experiences the powers and limits of his body, imagines its charms and discovers its desires, tests hypotheses about his understanding of the world, doubts the veracity of the facts, and at the same time is building beliefs of himself, beliefs of the people, about how the social world is, about how the concrete universe is. The child explores and discovers himself and the world towards adulthood, collecting determinant experiences which will build up his future. In this sense, the attention to childhood demonstrates to be a factor of great interest in preventing the mental health of individuals and groups, and for the wholeness and social balance, in which we can define psychically healthier standards and construct a fraternal human society.
