The present work explores the possible interaction between parental practices and the sensitivity of the limbic system and its contribution to the development of chronic stress. Such interaction could contribute to the establishment of life themes, which it is proposed to be a contributing factor to the ontogenesis of the chronic stress. The hippocampus action, as an organizing center for memory storage and recall, and the action of the amygdala in consolidating and re-consolidation emotional memories that results as such memories are evoked, would contribute in an interactive mode with the child’s life experiences to shape the way a person perceives and reacts to the stressful life events. Thus, stressful life themes would develop, in individuals with greater limbic reactivity, as a function of the learning that occurred due to parental practices which give rise to intensive affective memories.
