Abstract

Universities engage in many scientific events, dissemination of technical-scientificand cultural know-how. Events of this nature require financial resources and a great effortof people involved, and need to be evaluated. The objective is to evaluate, from the point of view of the participants, an event on the International Year of Astronomy open to the community, using the astronomical knowledge to demonstrate to the participants that the exact sciences and sciences of Earth are understandable, beautiful and give the individual capacities to understand several situations in their daily lives. The participants were 216 females and 159 males who answered one questionnaire about the event. The results show some gender differences, but the most appreciated were the sky observations. In all, the lectures were the most appreciated activity (40.19%) and least appreciated was the sound (28.37%). They evaluated that they have learned a lot about various aspects, the majority (69.87%) intended to share with others what they have learned and do not know if the school will require any work on the subject.
