Abstract

PECANHA, Dóris Lieth. From family to business: methodology for systemic-psychodynamic diagnosis and intervention. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2013, vol.33, n.85, pp. 465-486. ISSN 1415-711X.

This paper aims to answer a scientific challenge that is to develop methods and tools to collaborate with organizational health. Therefore it presents a methodology able to help in the solution of human problems in business, by studying the work teams, particularly in the context of the family business. Few studies include the integration of variables coming from different organizational levels (individual, team) and rare are those that include the study of systemic and psychodynamic variables. However, conflicts in the family have a negative impact on business, constituting challenge for managers. A research that aims to understand the dynamics of family businesses can contribute to overcoming critical steps in different stages of development of these companies and decrease their mortality. In general, they are small or medium businesses. Thus, It is concluded by the relevance of integrative theoretical and methodological approach: systemic-psychodynamic. Qualitative and quantitative methodologies are discussed, indicating the importance of the first one to understand the organizational dynamics. It is suggested the method of case study, with the possibility of conducting a quali-quantitative design (content analysis and statistical tests). Research instruments are specially developed for the purposes of this study: Organizational Structured Interview (EOE) and Scale Organizational Group (EGO). The quantification of the results by means of scale favors the statistical treatment of data. It is hoped that the presentation of this methodology can collaborate with organizational health, especially in the family businesses, and it will extend the work of validating the research instruments.
