Abstract

BARTHOLOMEU, Daniel et al. Assessment of Anxiety and emotional aspects of drug addicts in inpatient. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2014, vol.34, n.87, pp. 352-370. ISSN 1415-711X.

In Brazil, despite the diversity of research and attempts of interventions, studies related to abuse and / or addiction are scarce, as well as limited resources and processes that structure treatments, flawed; consequently, the alterations caused by addiction (a chronic disease), are addressed in a focused manner by health professionals and even by parents. This research aims to identify the intensity of anxiety symptoms, emotional indicators and external factors that can lead the resident of clinical drug rehab to respond negatively to the rehabilitation process, for example, feel threatened in unknown situations, as well as contribute to the restructuring of the therapeutic process in the therapeutic community agenda. It also aims to verify the correlation between craving (desire to repeat the experience of the effects of a given substance) and the framework of anxiety presented by the addict in recovery process. Participants were 25 men, 17-58 years old, who are in the rehabilitation process according to diagnoses of DSM-IV-TR - Substance Dependence criteria. The results demonstrated that emotional indicators observed in Test Human Figure Drawing (HFD), identified feelings of hostility toward the restricted environment, as well as aspects of tension and irritability. The Scale Craving for psychotropic drugs showed that situations in which the individual feels alone, can lead him to be willing to consume psychoactive substances. It is suggested that intervention strategies in this population consider such aspects.
