This article focuses on the life and work of Honorio Delgado Espinoza, a psychiatrist from Arequipa who occupies an important place in the history of psychology in Peru and psychiatry in Latin America. We briefly review his life and contribution to Philosophy, Education, and mainly for the Psychology in Peru. His spiritual and phenomenological conception of psychology, his approach to Freud, regarding the dissemination of psychoanalysis in Peru since 1915, as well as his separation from this school are analyzed in this article. It also presents his contribution as introducer of psychopharmacology in Peru, his role as a teacher and his theoretical formulations about mental illness.
