Abstract

JUNIOR, Hermes de Andrade  and  SOUZA, Marcos Aguiar de. Brazilian version of the Pedersen Environmental Competence. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2018, vol.38, n.94, pp. 37-44. ISSN 1415-711X.

The validation of the Pedersen Environmental Competence Scale was carried out for Brazilian samples. After the application of the instrument to 385 students from different graduation courses at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro, 207 men and 178 women, ranging in age from 18 to 46 years (average of 25.32 years), a factorial analysis was performed of the main axes with oblimim rotation, using SPSS. Four factors were obtained, totaling 46 items: factor 1 - Orientation and coexistence in the environment (14 items); factor 2 - Knowledge of the physical and social environment (14 items); factor 3 - Environmental awareness (11 items) and factor 4 - Resource conservation (7 items). The internal consistency analysis (Cronbach's alpha) in the global measure of environmental competence was 0.930, ranging from 0.716 to 0.917 in the factors. The structure obtained differs from that proposed by the author, which consisted of 60 items divided into six factors

Keywords : environmental competence; environmental education; measurement; factorial exploratory analysis.
