Abstract

PAULINA, Elisandra; FERREIRA, Luana; BOBATO, Sueli Terezinha  and  BECKER, Ana Paula Sesti. Affective attachment process of adopted children from the perspective of adoptive parents. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2018, vol.38, n.94, pp. 77-86. ISSN 1415-711X.

This study aims to analyze the process of affective attachment of children adopted from the perspective of adoptive parents. This is a qualitative research based on interviews with six mothers and five fathers between the ages of 31 and 55, who adopted children aged three to six years. The data were analyzed based on the technique of content analysis. The results showed that the main reasons for adoption were infertility and altruistic feelings. Regarding the parental-filial difficulties in the coexistence process, issues related to compliance with rules, family educational patterns and lack of social support emerged. It was observed that the affective bond was gradually built, evidencing the concern that the children are successful and of good nature. Implicitly, there is fear of the hereditary transmission of aspects of the child's personality and, consequently, the reproduction of myths about adoption

Keywords : adoption; affective bond; parenting; childhood.
