Although the treatments associated with Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) have advanced, there are gaps to be understood in the dynamics of various sexual behaviors. This research aimed to identify and understand the traumatic signs in the sexual risk behaviors of men who have sex with men (MSM) living with HIV. For the development of this study of mixed methods in a convenience sample, we used the Barrett Impulsivity Scale (BIS-11), the Sexual Compulsivity Scale (ECS); a Sociodemographic and Habits Form and a semi structured interview. 178 persons were interviewed with a quantitative method, and among them, 81 also participated in a qualitative stage. As results, sexual risk behaviors, signs of impulsivity and compulsiveness, use of psychoactive substances and low condom adherence were found. Among the elements associated with trauma, high ideation indexes and suicidal behaviors, lack of affect regulation, low modulation for impulse excitations, risk exposure, self-destructive behavior, dissociative aspects, guilt and hopelessness, among others, were observed. This study contributes to the in-depth understanding of the traumatic emotional dynamics involved in the sexual behaviors of MSM living with HIV+.
