BAHIA, Priscila Mary dos Santos; BICHARA, Ilka Dias  e  SANTOS, Iris Araújo dos. From object to subject: playing of children in a hospital toy library. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2018, vol.38, n.95, pp. 230-237. ISSN 1415-711X.

Although infantile hospitalization subjects children to difficult experiences, it is noticed that they keep on in this space, in a lively way, several playful behaviors, such as their play. Considering this aspect, this paper aims to analyze the protagonism of the children in a hospital toy library, identifying their play and their entanglements. For this purpose, the recreational behavior of eleven children, from six to twelve years old, admitted to a public hospital located in Salvador- BA, was observed. The observation records were done in the hospital toy library during thirty-minute sessions. 41 episodes were registered of varied play associated with other playing activities, such as painting and drawing, with a predominance of the number of make-believe play with 19 episodes. It was noticed that, despite the hospital daily experience, it was possible to notice that kids did not change their playful existence, they got actively involved in the development of their play. Therefore, this study points out the children´s active engagement even when faced with sickness, fact that removes them from the place where they are only the object of care, and puts them in the place of subject of desires and creation.
