Abstract

PECORA, Ana Tereza Lopes; WANDERBROOCKE, Ana Claudia Nunes de Souza  and  ANTUNES, Maria Cristina. Bioecological Analysis of Overweight and Obesity in Conversation Circles. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2019, vol.39, n.96, pp. 97-107. ISSN 1415-711X.

This article aims to analyze factors involved in overweight and obesity, from reports of conversation circles conducted in a religious community in the city of Curitiba-PR, based on the Bioecological Model. Eight women between 25 and 74 years of age took part on ten weekly meetings, which were transcribed and subjected to content analysis. The categories of analysis followed four ecological environments proposed by Bronfenbrenner: micro, meso, exo and macrosystems. The subcategories emerged from the speeches of the participants. The interdependence of proximal processes and systems that make up the ecological environment was noticed. Psychosocial aspects of abuse experiences in childhood, conflictual family relationships, lack of incentives, credibility and prejudice in family and social relationships due to failures in attempts to lose weight were cited. The model of analysis provided the opportunity to discuss the influences of public policies of health and security. Moreover, religious beliefs, media influences, the consumer society and the ideals of beauty and lifestyle were also highlighted aspects. The importance of an integrative look at the various factors in question is discussed, as well as the importance of mobilizing society and seeking alternative spaces to guide and support the population in relation to this issue.
