The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of performing ludic interventions in the ways of playing, in social interaction and in communication of a group of children with Down Syndrome (DS). Four children with DS were part of the research, two girls and two boys, between 6 and 7 years of age, enrolled in a specialized education institution. It is an intervention study that was carried out in three stages, which were: initial evaluation, realization of ludic workshops (intervention), and final evaluation. For the initial and final evaluations, sessions of observation were conducted in an unstructured ludic situation, using the Ludic Model evaluation plan. The interventions were planned in the format of ludic workshops to promote and stimulate the shared playing and symbolic activity, and to enlarge the repertoire of the children's communication and interactions. The results indicated that the intervention favored the interaction and communication among the children, and resulted in a bigger autonomy in playing in relation to the adult. It was also verified that the symbolic playing became more frequent and the abilities for shared playing were also favored. These findings can subsidize the planning of practices and interventions among children with DS that act in their development, breaking away from the limiting and condescending perspectives regarding the children's potentials.
