Abstract

AZEVEDO, Adriano Valério dos Santos  and  CREPALDI, Maria Aparecida. Coping and significant social networks of family caregivers of children with burns. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2019, vol.39, n.97, pp. 171-182. ISSN 1415-711X.

This research sought to identify the coping strategies and significant social networks of family caregivers of children in a Burn Center. The participants were 16 caregivers who answered the Ways of Coping Scale and the network map. The scale was analyzed through means, and the map of networks through the frequency and characteristics of the structure and functions of the network, as well as bond attributes. Coping strategies were focused on religious practices and social support. In the network map, there was a greater concentration of individuals in the health team and family quadrants, whose functions are related to cognitive guidance, emotional support and material help through reciprocity and intensity of the bond. The results indicated that the significant social networks helped caregivers in the development of social bonds with health professionals and family members, which possibly affected their coping with the situations.
