SOUZA, Cindy Bahr Esposito de et al. Social representations about organ donation. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2019, vol.39, n.97, pp.207-216. ISSN 1415-711X.

More than 50 years ago, the first organ transplant was performed in Brazil. The number of transplants has been increasing, but it is still not enough to finish with the waiting rows. With this in view, this research aimed to identify the social representations about organ donation in a Brazilian capital. Therefore, 100 users of a Basic Health Unit answered a questionnaire composed of diferent kinds of questions, includin free evocations. The data obtained were the subject of lexicographic analysis. The structural approach of the theory of social representations was used as a theoretical and methodological contribution. The results showed that organ donation is understood as an act of love, which makes life possible and has the function of helping, and it was also possible to perceive that inadequate information and encouragement of the family make influency to the decision to donate organs of a family member.
