Abstract

SILVA, Graziela Vasconcelos da  and  ABRAO, Jorge Luiz Ferreira. Emotional experiences of teenage pregnancy: between expectations and conflicts. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2020, vol.40, n.98, pp. 63-72. ISSN 1415-711X.

This article aims to understand the adolescents' experiences, expectations and anxieties during their gestational period. Two adolescents, aged 17 years, participated in the research, who were in the waiting room of the high-risk pregnancy sector of the Regional Hospital of Assis. As a research instrument, a semi-structured interview and the application of the drawing-story procedure with theme were used. The data obtained indicated that: teenage pregnancy is an experience that can cause both positive and negative consequences for young women; the participants are not yet aware of the possible difficulties that will present after the child's birth; family support is very important in terms of accepting the new condition as a mother and in the structure offered to welcome the child. The results show the participants' lack of preparation to receive the news and deal with motherhood, their expectations of future plans remain the same, except for the circumstance of having to prolong the time for the events to take place. In another step, pregnancy seems to be something pleasant when the participants think about the image of the child and the way their relationship with him will unfold, bringing love as something that will overcome the obstacles in face of the changes experienced.

Keywords : adolescence; pregnancy; psychoanalysis; mother-baby relationship.
