Abstract

BERESTINAS, Alexander Camara et al. Card game and elderly people: the perception of frequent visitors of a park in Curitiba-PR . Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2020, vol.40, n.99, pp. 252-260. ISSN 1415-711X.

This research analyzed the perception of visitors and merchants in a park in Curitiba about a group of elderly people who gather there to play cards. The research was done through participant observation and semi-structured interviews with 15 people. The data were submitted to content analysis and pointed out that the activity is perceived as an incentive to socialization and cognitive stimuli, which can result in well-being, increased quality of life and mental health to its members. On the other hand, risk factors were identified, such as the possibility of developing gambling compulsion, financial debts and/or exploitation and unsafe sexual activity. It was concluded that intersectoral actions would be beneficial in order to promote a range of activities for the elderly people, directed to physical activities, recreation, sex education, gaming workshops that promote the development of concepts related to aging in an active way, as well as guidelines that involve clarifications about the vulnerability factors of this social group.
