Abstract

PIASSON, Douglas Leite  and  FREITAS, Marta Helena de. The identity of the Brazilian psychologist: productions from 2008 to 2019. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2020, vol.40, n.99, pp. 271-284. ISSN 1415-711X.

This article deals with the professional identity of the Brazilian psychologist and aims to understand how the theme has been treated in specific productions in the Psychology field during the recent years. It therefore describes an integrative review of the relevant literature produced in the period from 2008 to 2019. 32 productions were analyzed: 11 articles, 18 dissertations and three theses. The works were organized into four categories, according to the perspective from which the psychologist's identity was treated 1) by psychology students, 2) by users of psychological services, 3) by the multidisciplinary team, and 4) by psychologists. It was found that the psychologist's identity is still guided by the clinical focus, linked to an idea of psychological intervention more focused on the individual. Some impacts of this profile on professional performance are discussed, and the importance of training based on the new social demands emerging in the country is reiterated.
