Abstract

OLIVEIRA, Gabriela Eustáquio; FARIA, Tayna Benko  and  PEREIRA, Tatiane Guimarães. Psychology in psychiatric nursery in a general hospital. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2021, vol.41, n.100, pp. 106-111. ISSN 1415-711X.

The psychiatric nursery in a general hospital is based on the precepts of the psychosocial Care Paradigm seeking for an integral, humane and dignified treatment. The construction of this knowledge and performance is emerging, however there is a shortage of literature about this practice. This article aims to describe the experience of the internship in Health Psychology in this service. Through institutional psychodiagnosis and participant observation, the interns proposed an Art Therapy Workshop. The experience proved to be potent as a treatment and communication tool between professionals and patients. Thus, it creates a possibility to get in touch with the history of that patient as well as their feelings about their families, illness and feelings regarding hospitalization. The practice allowed the trainees to get in touch with a feasible and fruitful performance and, therefore, necessary for the humanization models of care.
