GIL, Aline Cordeiro dos Santos; LIMA, Karyne Santiago; CARVALHO, Mônica Gurjão  e  MEDEIROS, Danuta. A psychodynamic understanding of obesity in post-bariatric patients. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2021, vol.41, n.100, pp. 112-123. ISSN 1415-711X.

This study aimed to understand the perception that individuals who underwent bariatric surgeries have of their body images. The participants were three men and three women, from 34 to 50 years old, who had undergone bariatric surgeries from 3 to 13 years earlier. Data were collected through the Thematic draw-a-story method, in addition to a semi-structured interview, both of which were analyzed using a psychodynamic approach. The results showed that participants were satisfied with their body images and had more positive affections after the surgery. However, they also indicated difficulties in acceptance and a prevalence of negative affections toward obese figures. It was possible to observe the psychological effects of the imposition of bodies considered to be slim and beautiful, especially among women, who are pressured to show femininity both in their behavior and in their physical aspects.
