Abstract

LIER-DE VITTO, Maria Francisca  and  ANDRADE, Lourdes. On the interpretation of children's symptomatic writing. Estilos clin. [online]. 2008, vol.13, n.24, pp. 54-71. ISSN 1415-7128.

This paper offers critical considerations against the widespread conception of language found both in theoretical and clinical approaches to children's difficulties in reading and writing, i.e., the latter is conceived of as direct representation of speech. Such a discussion leads to the development of an alternative point of view which takes into account the effects of the functioning of language in the interpretation on the relationship child-writing. Finally, this paper focuses on central issues in the field of Speech Clinic, such as relation between speech and writing.

Keywords : children's reading and writing difficulties; symptomatic writings; language clinic; speech therapy.
