The exhibition to the criminality transforms it in routine actions, which are represented by social groups. The information on the phenomenon of violence can base the individuals’ believes, that when widespread are called stereotypes. Looking for larger information the present study had for objective to investigate the stereotypes formed by the individuals. For such a questionnaire was built from information provided by NEV/USP (Nucleon of Violence’s Studies from the University of São Paulo) seeking to identify, in the individuals’ opinion (teenagers and adults, of both genders, which were found in public places from Grande ABC), the four crimes that happen more frequently and among them, what’s the aggressor’s and the victims’ stereotype. The results demonstrated that the four crimes more frequently pointed were: Robbery (86,4%), Kidnapping (69,1%), Burglary (58%) and Homicide (51,9%). In relation to the aggressors, according to the respondents’ opinion, all are men, with age among 19 and 25 years, that didn’t complete the low level of formal education, unemployed, colored and in most cases they were under effect of alcohol and drugs. For victims, the respondents pointed women, with age among 19 and 25 years, with complete medium level of formal education, working in formal activity, caucasian and not being under the effect of alcohol and drugs. In what concerns the newspaper reading, 50,6% of the respondents affirmed to have such habit, however they informed that their most important vehicle of information is the television (54%). Therefore is concluded: the results showed that when people are questioned about the violence, they use heuristic strategies. They informed relevant signs for the agressors and victims. In fact, to defend the positive identity of their group (victims), they built a positive image of theses group against the agressor's group. These and other conclusions suggest the needing of complementary studies
