This paper presents a theoretical research whose goal is to find out the relation between language and thought in Merleau-Ponty's texts. Inspired by a writing by Vygotsky in which he affirms that it is hard to define the meaning as a phenomenon of language or of thought, we decided to approach the act of signification to which Merleau-Ponty also refers. We noticed that in the act of ascribing sense, thought and language are in a non-dissociable relationship in which one is not the cause of the other; while language expresses thought, thought is appropriated by language.
