Abstract

GRECCHI, Denilson  and  CASTRO, Dagmar Silva Pinto de. The Sense of Learning Psicology to Graduating Physiotherapy Students. Psicol inf. [online]. 2008, vol.12, n.12, pp. 72-106. ISSN 1415-8809.

The profession of physiotherapist requires, among other skills, ability to listen by its therapeutic character. The Psychology, as one of the disciplines that composes the curriculum of the course, is understood as field of knowledge which will allow the student wakes up for needed knowledge about subjective aspects of the therapist-patient relationship that modulate the adherence to treatment for a better result of the intervention. The purpose of this study is to understand the sense of learning psychology for students of last year of graduation in physiotherapy. Were heard and recorded reports of three students from an university in ABC Paulista. Inspired by the phenomenological method the reports were read and some units of meaning were identified which were transformed into six analytical categories: understanding the other, the relationship with the other, to understand themselves, the practice of the profession, the teaching of psychology and ethics in the practice of the profession. The comprehensive analysis of the categories helped reveal that the daily practice of physiotherapy is challenging for the student who, in contact with the patient, perceives itself as a finite being and find itself unprepared to deal with his human dimension and to the other. This result points to the need for care in training of student who goes beyond the intellectual and technical aspect of the profession. The content of the curriculum should to be taught with an adequate support from a psychological point of view. To open spaces that welcome existential issues of a care profession is essential for touching things that do not require only the competent management of the technique but the capacity of listening to the other.
