Abstract

VASCONCELOS, Eveli Freire  and  GUIMARAES, Liliana A. M.. Effort and reward in the work of a sample of nursing professionals. Psicol inf. [online]. 2009, vol.13, n.13, pp. 11-36. ISSN 1415-8809.

The present descriptive and analytical study sought to identify the existence of imbalance between effort and reward in the work of a sample of nursing professionals from the Santa Rita Hospital, in Dourados-MS, relating the sample’s social, economic, and demographic characteristics and checking its possible association with occupational stress. Out of a total of 35 employees of the institution, 34 were examined (97(97.1%), being two nurses, four technicians, and twenty eight ants. The instrument used was the Effort-Reward Imbalance (ERI), (SIEGRIST. 2001) validated for use in Brazil by Guimarães et al. (2004). For the analysis of statistic data, the Minitab Program version 13 was used. The main results show that the effort/reward imbalance is larger among men (p=0,003) and professionals that have worked up to 12 years in this profession (p=0,004).
