Abstract

This study describes and compares five abilities related to emotional intelligence: self-awareness, self-motivation, self-control, empathy and sociability, of university students. It aimed specifically to analyze differences in the factorial scores of the items and their correlation. The participants of this study were 82 male and female students of Psychology of a university of São Bernardo do Campo in the metropolitan area of São Paulo, age between 18 and 53, chosen by convenience. They answered a self administrated scale of emotional intelligence. Among them, self-awareness and self-motivation are the most developed emotional abilities and sociability is the less developed.
