The present paper aims presenting a total institutions´ historical development in between the modern age, having as focus the assertive perspective about the most important aspects of social control, from the psychiatric perspective, starting from the asylum as a gender, and juridical, from the development of the State’s ways of social control, especially in a criminal perspective. It is intended to show that there was a perceptible restructuring in the ways of social control, when happened the teleological agreement between the psychiatric techniques and de State’s rolling play when it goes to identify de standards of normality and pathology.
