This article presents an overview of the psychosocial aspects of kidney chronic disease and organ transplantation in Brazil and analyses the health psychologist role. Nowadays, less than 10% of patients with kidney chronic disease are derive to the transplant while 60% could be transplanted. Besides, the traditional clinical psychology still is predominant among psychologists. The work with renal patients requires a change in the psychologist role and an active participation in the policies health, especially in programs to enhance the healthy behaviours. The information from this study might be useful to psychologists develop guidelines and policies that increase the quality of life involved with the kidney chronic disease and transplantation.
