The aim of this study is to discuss the concept of narcisism from Freud's work. We set narcisism as the support of the psychic subject and the defensive resource to bear the feeling for helplessness before the aging of the body and before the idea, conception of death. The theoretical discussion is illustreted by a brief clinical case that was seen at Hospital do Servidor Público Estadual "Francisco Morato de Oliveira".
