This study aims to identify alterations caused by the results of an ostomy, on the life of ostomyzed patient. After the surgery, there is a period of adaptation, changes of his physical image, and of complex and limiting changes , that will make the patient need an adaptation for cooping with . These changes can be responsible for the appearance of negative feelings like the mutilation, disability, incompetence, rage, depression, between others, which can produce a series of obstacles in the reintegration and adjustment to his familiar, work and social life. Each patient has beliefs and specific values, that determine different kinds of cooping with the diseases and its sequels. The ostomy reflects in physical, psychological and social aspects, and in a multidisciplinal optic it interferes with the quality of life. The patient needs social support, mainly through the family, which will help him with the rehabilitation of his social life, and with the recuperation of his productive capacity.
