SOUSA, Namara de. Acting in a social protection net. Rev. SBPH [online]. 2008, vol.11, n.2, pp. 73-87. ISSN 1516-0858.

This paper aimed at mapping the attention and care practices of public service actions in risk territories to those who suffer from troubles related to alcohol and other drugs set off by poverty and violence scenarios, intense drug traffic zones and alcohol abuse. Our proposal was to develop strategies with 40 adolescents, their families and the community in which they live, in order to seek other existing possibilities beyond drug addiction, by promoting communication to improve the relation adolescent/family/school/community. We started mapping the attention actions set at the place by outlining strategies and tactics that ended up in a web of procedures to form new sociabilities and sensitivities, and converting to the mapping method due to its possibilities, since it is open, reversible and susceptible to changes, which involves a political and ethical position taken by the researcher. We used the following tools in order to put up a social supporting net: the making of the net; holding meetings with representatives of local institutions, technicians of the service net, parents/relatives of the adolescents; sports and leisure activities; therapeutic follow-up, involving field work and home visits; having the group as a device. The balance of our work points out the inefficient public services, and on the other hand that there was a significant decrease from school dropout and from social projects of the net, a decrease in drug consumption and violence, less time exposed to risk factors; no deaths in the period, and the strengthening of family function.
