Health professionals, in particular the ones that act in ICU, are exposed to a hostil environment with the prevalence of physical and psychological exhaustion. A literature review was performed to identify studies on psychologists health, analyzing articles about mental health of ICU professionals, from the main source Revista Brasileira de Terapia, from 2006 to 2008. This journal was chosen as it publishes papers on ICU doctors and other health professionals. Stress characteristics were described in different ICU professional categories, especially the psychologist. Articles from RBTI were analyzed considering objectives, participants, authors, nature of study and main conclusions. Considering what is being published on ICU psychologist’s health, possible errors were identified. The key words used were stress, professionals, health, psychologist, exhaustion and ICU. Three papers that had doctors and nurses as population study and considered them vulnerable to the appearance of occupational diseases and stress were identified. The amount of research conducted on psychologists or other professionals (except doctors and nurses) in relation to mental health, was insufficient to draw meaningful conclusions on the subject. It was possible to perceive the lack of studies, as well the importance of its implementation, so that professionals have access to the physical and emotional manifestations of stress and other diseases related to the activities performed in intensive care units.
