Abstract

OTTO, Francieli de Fatima; AMUI, Juliano Maluf  and  MESTRE, Marilza. Heart and soul: the life and other symbols of heart disease in hospital reality. Rev. SBPH [online]. 2012, vol.15, n.1, pp. 114-133. ISSN 1516-0858.

This research shows a study conducted with a sample of N = 14 participants, patients admitted to the ward Evangelical University Hospital of Curitiba (HUEC). The overall objective was to check with these patients if the complex constellation of symptoms related to heart disease would be modified through psychological intervention focus. The method used was quasi-experimental testing as a tool with word association, which identifies the possible activated complex in an individual, enabling more effective intervention for patients. The procedure took place for sample selection, application of TCLE, socioeconomic questionnaire, test of word association and the request for drawing a hearth. Then came the intervention and was repeated the test application and design association, which served to data's measure. The results show reduction of complex measures for the fall in response time of the test and in other disorders of reaction defined by Jung, 1995. In conclusion, the work with the word association test in the hospital environment enabled the identification of unconscious contents thus contributing to greater effectiveness of interventions. And a new strategy of care in hospital psychology was adapted by author: expression of feelings through symbolism in design of a heart.
