PIRES, Vera  e  PEREIRA, M. Graça. Dyadic adjustment, quality of life, sexual beliefs and sexual functioning in diabetic patients and partners. Rev. SBPH [online]. 2012, vol.15, n.2, pp. 128-147. ISSN 1516-0858.

The present study focuses on the evaluation of marital adjustment, quality of life, sexual beliefs and sexual functioning in diabetic patients and their partners. The sample is composed by 116 diabetic patients and 90 partners. The instruments used were: Revised Dyadic Adjustment Scale (R-DAS) (Spanier, 1976); Feminine Sexual Functioning Index (FSFI) (Rosen et al., 2000); International Index of Erectile Functioning (IIEF) (Rosen et al., 1997); Sexual Beliefs and Information Questionnaire (SBIQ) (Adams et al., 1996) and the Diabetes Quality of Life (DQOL) (Jacobson, 1994). The results showed differences on quality of life (higher on type 2) and female sexual functioning (higher on type 1). A positive relationship between dyadic adjustment, sexual beliefs and sexual functioning in patients and partners was also found. In diabetic women, a relationship between sexual functioning and marital adjustment and between the later and quality of life was found as well as between sexual functioning and sexual beliefs. In diabetic males, only a significant relationship between sexual functioning and marital adjustment was found. Differences on quality of life in terms of age and on marital adjustment regarding terms of gender were found. Finally, implications regarding intervention are addressed.
