The present paper is a report of an experience based on the a clinical investigation of an elderly patient attended by the author in a Reference Centre for the Elderly, with the proposal is to understand the aging process would provide or not the repositioning of a true self according to Winnicott's theory. We used the clinical method of understanding type proposed by Trinca (1984/2003) to explore the clinical aspects of this experience. The personal accounts of patients were analyzed from the standpoint of Winnicottian psychoanalytic theoretical. The analysis allowed us to consider that the case for the patient in question, the aging process led to the repositioning of a true self, also favored by the experience of alterity.
