The sample comprised thirty two patients who underwent heart transplantation from 1996 to 2011, over eighteen years. Participants were assessed using the Ways of Coping Scale and sociodemographic questionnaire. We calculated the internal consistency of the scale factors using Cronbach's Alpha. Participants were grouped into patients who received psychological preparation before transplantation and follwed after transplantation, and coping strategies were compared using Student's t test. When comparing the groups, a significant increase in focused on the problem coping and seeking social support in those who received preparation, while in the other group showed a significant increase in emotional confrontation.
