Abstract

This article aims to broaden the understanding regardimg the psychologist's practice in hospital, revealing some of its foundations, such as, to consider the patient a bio-psycho-social individual. Based on that, the hospital psychologist acts in favor of health promotion. Therefore, we illustrate with clinical scenes how psychologists in the multidisciplinary team enhances health promotion within the hospital, although this institution was founded on the curative model. First, we will contextualize the psychologist's role in the multidisciplinary team. We will discuss the concept of health promotion and, ultimately, we will articulate these ideas using scenes from a children's hospital in São Paulo. In this article, we emphasize the importance of working in multidisciplinary team, considering that the vision from different disciplines have different foundations and they can complement each other contributing for a service that reaches the biological, psychological and social dimensions of the patients.
