CATANI, Julia  e  SOUZA, Maria Abigail de. Psychic suffering and body: perspectives for interdisciplinary work in the treatment of patients with Somatoform Disorders. Rev. SBPH [online]. 2015, vol.18, n.2, pp. 05-21. ISSN 1516-0858.

The somatoform disorders are characterized as diseases that are not evident in laboratory tests or that lead to a significant worsening of certain organic diseases as result of emotional conflict. In general, patients suffering from these disorders have suffered experiences of maltreatment, abandonment, physical or psychological violence and sexual abuse. This article explores and discusses the relevance of a multidisciplinary work in the hospital, presenting the first author’s experience at the Somatoform Disorders Clinic and the specialties offered for the care of such patients. From an historical review of the definition and configuration of a team work, this article discusses the possibilities and constraints for professionals working at service. In addition, it seeks to reflect on the possible contributions that psychiatry and psychoanalysis could offer to the treatment of this population, considering that even without specific therapies, the link between the professional and the patient is essential in the transformation of symptoms.
