Abstract

This is a bibliographic review which aims to identify and analyze the national scientific production, published from 2009 to 2013, about the psychologist actuation focused on the care of terminals and/or palliative care patients. Through the use of specific descriptors, Brazilians scientific articles were selected from virtual databases: Periodicals Electronics in Psychology (PePSIC) Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). Eleven scientific articles were selected and then submitted to content analysis. Despite the importance of this theme, the results point to a national production still incipient on the subject of death and terminal illness. The identified studies emphasize the importance of the presence and actuation of the hospital's psychologist in the multidisciplinary teams who work with terminally ill patients, especially for its potential to provide patients, family caregivers and health professionals with a new look and new meanings about terminality and death. It is observed the need for investments in education for death be realized at a young age so that later people might have better conditions to experience the terminal phase with naturally.
