Resumo

Objective: Understand the implications of the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer in the life of oncological patients. Method: It's a qualitative research made with seven patients in chemotherapeutic intravenous treatment at the Adult Oncology Sector of a philanthropic hospital in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. For data collection, it was used an individual semi-structured interview composed of open-ended questions and, after, submitted to Content Analysis Technic. Results and Discussion: The diagnosis was experienced by the participants as something suffering and painful, the feelings of anxiety, doubt, sadness, fear and closeness to death predominated among them. Was verified, also, that the way in which the diagnostic were transmitted by the doctor had influenced the comprehension and the treatment of the illness and that spirituality, family and friend support were present face to the process of getting sick. Conclusion: The experience of the cancer bring biopsychosocial repercussions in the life of the oncologic patient, being fundamental to get stronger the communication between patient, family and the health team, aiming to offer an greater autonomy, active participation and singularity of the patient and of all the system evolved on this process.
