SANTOS, Carla Mayra de Jesus  and  FARO, André. Self-efficacy, locus of control and adherence to treatment in patients with type 2 diabetes. Rev. SBPH [online]. 2018, vol.21, n.1, pp. 74-91. ISSN 1516-0858.

The present study analyzed the influence of the variables self-efficacy and locus of control in the treatment of patients with diabetes. Fifty-five individuals with type 2 diabetes, accompanied by the Primary Care Family Health teams, from the city of Itabaiana (SE), participated in the study. They answered sociodemographic, clinical, and three-fold questions about self-care in diabetes, self-efficacy and locus of control. In the data analysis, a logistic regression was made to identify the main predictors of adhesion. Among the findings, the predictive power of the variables self-efficacy and locus of internal control was highlighted in view of adherence to the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes. At the end, it is discussed the importance of considering the individuals' beliefs and perceptions regarding the behaviors related to adaptation and adherence to treatment in diabetes.

Keywords : diabetes; self-efficacy; locus of control; adherence to treatment.
