Abstract

ARIENTI, Marina Ferreira  and  PORTELA, Marcos Vinícius Zoreck. The deeply sick child talks about death: an experience report. Rev. SBPH [online]. 2018, vol.21, n.1, pp. 232-244. ISSN 1516-0858.

In our society, conversations about death takes an interdict place, mainly when regarding the death of children. Almost nothing is said about this subject at the health centers. The silence about this subject shows what it is trying to hide: the illness and the child's death. This article tries to discuss the effects in adults when they face the proximity of the death of a child and the importance of the psychological services as a place of listening and speaking for these children. This experience report is based on the psychologist's work at a Multiprofessional's Residence Program of a hospital with deeply sick children. The theory developed by Raimbaut and Kovács was used as base for the psychologist's practice and the clinical report that shows the work that the patient was able to achieve when a listening space was offered.

Keywords : children; death; hospital.
