The study aimed to characterize the sociodemographic profile and evaluate the psychosocial impact of chronic kidney disease (CKD) through the indices of childhood depression and perception of quality of life (QOL) of patients in hemodialysis treatment and the paternal perception concerning their children. A descriptive study was carried out using as instruments: PedsQLInventoryTM - Version 4.0, Child Depression Inventory (CDI) and research questionnaire in order to assess sociodemographic and clinical data. 13 patients aged between 9 and 14 years old and 13 caregivers between 29 and 59 years old had participated in this study. Among the scores of patients' perception about the health-related quality of life (HRQL), the overall average (physical and psychosocial dimension) was equal to 68.5±16.2. In the paternal perception about children, the overall average of HRQL was equal to 63.6±22.2. Among the pediatric population, 3 (23.1%) presented depressive symptomatology according CDI. Faced with the scarcity of research on the theme, it is necessary that new studies and among them, qualitative studies are conducted with patients diagnosed with CKD and their caregivers with the objective of evaluating the impact of pathology in the dynamic of the subject and the family as a form of prevention and treatment.
