BARATA, Ana Luiza Santos Ramalho Beirão et al. Impact of microcephaly on the fraternal subsystem through family testing: case study. Rev. SBPH [online]. 2019, vol.22, n.1, pp. 154-171. ISSN 1516-0858.

The increase in the amount of cases of children with microcephaly in Brazilian Northeast has provoked a state of alert about the proliferation of Zika virus. Microcephaly is a malformation that hampers proper development. According to the Ministry of Health (2018), between 2015 and 2018, 3.267 cases of alterations in growth caused by Zika virus infection were confirmed, the largest share of them in Northeast, due to the hot climate that favors the proliferation of the virus. The arrival of a child with microcephaly brings a need of reconfiguration in the family system, and consequently some changes in routine and relations between its members, generating specific demands to the health team. The goal of this study is to understand the impact caused by a child with microcephaly in the fraternal subsystem, and the repercussion of this phenomenon in the maternal relation.
