Abstract

GIAXA, Ana Cláudia Merchan et al. Game usage as a therapeutic resource during children hospitalization period. Rev. SBPH [online]. 2019, vol.22, n.1, pp. 280-305. ISSN 1516-0858.

The current study goal is to identify the contributions of game usage as a therapeutic resource during children hospitalization period. The method used was the bibliographic, exploratory and qualitative study research on the theme of game usage in the hospital environment. It was noticed that the ludic is part of the childhood and games, specifically, are one of the resources that can be applied in psychological interventions where rules are necessary, since games are structured activities and support children’s comprehension of the current moment, their infirmity context, smoothening the unpleasant effects of hospitalization and softening the emotional breakdown. New studies on game usage in hospital setting are strongly suggested, since most studies found considered games usage as a therapeutic resource in clinical practice.

Keywords : psychology; hospitalized children; game; play therapy.
