MARCIANO, Rafaela Paula; EVANGELISTA, Patrícia Gonçalves  e  AMARAL, Waldemar Naves do. Group of mothers in neonatal ICU: a place for listening and early intervention in psychoanalysis. Rev. SBPH [online]. 2019, vol.22, n.2, pp. 48-67. ISSN 1516-0858.

The birth of a premature baby is marked by trauma of the birth of risk and can bring losses in the motherhood, affecting the mother-baby relationship. Psychological intervention in the neonatal unit aims to help parents build their own perceptions regarding the traumatic event and to build strategies for bonding with the baby. The objective of this study was to analyze the role of the mother’s group in a neonatal ICU as a device for listening and constructing a subjective narrative about the baby. This is a descriptive, qualitative research based on Psychoanalysis. Fifteen mothers of preterm infants, frequent attendants of the parents group, participated in the study. Sixteen group sessions were realized and from the discourse of participants, six categories were developed: conflicts with team, difficulties with breastfeeding, difficulties in hospital permanence, regression and evolution of the baby, support network during hospitalization and feelings and expectations for hospital discharge. The results pointed that the group can be a space of rescue of the competence of the maternal function and of sustentation of a symbolic place for the baby.
