MACEDO NETO, Antonio José de; GRANADO, Laura Carmilo  e  SALLES, Rodrigo Jorge. The understanding of attitudes towards the diagnosis of prostate cancer in the process of interventive psychodiagnostic. Rev. SBPH [online]. 2020, vol.23, n.1, pp. 66-80. ISSN 1516-0858.

Prostate cancer affects a significant portion of the male population. In 2018 in Brazil, 68 thousand men were diagnosed with prostate cancer, so it is necessary to understand the attitudes of individuals towards the positive diagnosis of cancer, to better understand which measures are taken by patients to face the disease. The aim of the study was to understand the attitudes of prostate cancer patients towards the diagnosis. An Interventive Psychodiagnostic was performed with a patient who was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The instruments used during the Interventive Psychodiagnostic process were: a sociodemographic questionnaire; a semi-structured script with 17 questions related to the research objective; the projective techniques H-T-P (House- Tree-Person) and TAT (Thematic Apperception Test). In total, 8 sessions were performed with the patient. The results were presente din 3 thematic categories which enabled the understanding of attitudes towards prostate cancer. The results obtained showed that Interventive Psychodiagnostic is a tool that makes it possible to better understand the patient's defense mechanisms, such as repression, isolation and rationalization, during the process of illness and treatment. It is also important to highlight that family support was an important coping mechanism throughout the entire process.
