Sleep apnea is a respiratory sleep disorder that affects 1% to 4% of children and is associated with impairments in health and quality of life. Among treatments, positive airway pressure (PAP) is recommended. Although effective, adherence to PAP treatment is low in children. Considering the damage caused by sleep apnea and the difficulty in adhering to treatment via PAP, the present study presents the findings of the specialized literature on the behavioral repercussions of sleep apnea in childhood and illustrates the contribution of sleep psychology in related health practices adherence to treatment with PAP equipment.
