Abstract

ALMEIDA, Vivianne Rollo; CUNHA, Myriam Siqueira da; SALENGUE, Maria Clara Soares  and  FERNANDES, Renata Knorr Ungaretti. The Hospital Psychologist: the perception of patients in the surgical clinic. Rev. SBPH [online]. 2020, vol.23, n.2, pp. 77-87. ISSN 1516-0858.

This article is the result of an investigation that aimed to understand the perception of patients admitted to the surgical clinic, about the role of the hospital psychologist. For this, the phenomenological-hermeneutic method with a qualitative approach was used. Two patients from a hospital in the state of Rio Grande do Sul were researched. The surgical patient undergoes psychic transformation processes during the hospitalization period. The hospital psychologist works in this context and relationship with the patient, helping to understand these aspects that permeate hospitalization. Data collection was carried out through an in-depth interview. The analysis and interpretation occurred from the reduction of information and the construction of a structure of the lived experience. In this process, three units of meaning were identified: openness to the dialogical process; stop, look, listen; losses yes, gains too. The studied subjects established a supportive relationship with the hospital psychologist and openness to dialogue. By stopping and looking to listen, by the space built so that the losses made were recognized and, it was possible to perceive as loopholes and gains, the essence of understanding the role of the hospital psychologist was understood by the respondents, as the ability to perceive the subject beyond of the patient.

Keywords : qualitative research; patients; hospitals.
